Profitability in timesheet
Olivér Varga
Have an extra column in timesheet report for profitability.
Essentially "budget-cost" column to see how much money is left as profit.
Also a green line that is slowly getting shorter as profit gets lower would be a nice visual way to show this.
This would be a super nice motivator as well, to see how much money is gained instead of how much is lost.
(Also having profitability appear elsewhere would be super nice as well.)

Show Client or Project instead of item ID in Time Sheet or Tracker
Marie-Anne Herremans
Now, if user wants to see his daylog, he has an option to open the tracker or timesheet. In both places he can see the list of items, tracked time and Item-Id. Instead of item ID, we need to see Client or Project. Item titles can be the same in different projects, so item IDs do not add value here.

Marie-Anne Herremans John Stapleton what data would you use for profitability calculation and how would you display it on timesheet? We are on the verge to start this improvement and I am collecting more details.

Vidas Also would be good to have some kind of permission settings around this, so that hourly rates are not visible to everyone. :-)
Vidas
John Stapleton: hourly rates are currently visible only for workspace administrators. But it is of course easy to deduct if someone logs 1h, then rate is clear. So, should the actual profitability calculation be visible only for workspace admins?

Vidas I would say "yes". Or maybe only specifically designated people? Just because you're an admin on the system, doesn't mean rates & profitability should be open to you. Probably best to have a special security group and only they can see the rates & calculations.
Vidas
Marie-Anne Herremans can you specify which data element in your setup represents project? Is it board or row name?
Marie-Anne Herremans
Vidas: It's two custom fields. One for client and one for project. Now in the timelog you see the ticket number but that doesn't say much. It would be more usefull for us if we woud see the client and the project there. Then we have the title of the ticket and then the hours. That would be perfect.
Vidas
How would you define profit left? Substract from budget tracked time multiplied by hourly rate? Profit = Budget - (tracked hours * hourly rate)
Olivér Varga
Vidas: Yeah!
So lets say we agree with a client on a $3000 fix budget.
If we were to magically finish the job with no work, then $3000 is our profit.
But we do work on it, so with our hourly rates (internal) the clock is ticking and every minute we track would subtract from that $3000.
Lets say we have a daily $300 rate, so if we finish after 5 days it would leave $1500 left as profit, but if we would finish after 20 days we would actually lose money on it.
So I imagine a column where yeah, it would show Budget - (tracked hours * hourly rate)
and also have a bar that has a total width for a budget and a fill width that is proportional to the profit. Like a reversed progress bar. The longer we work on it, the less money we get as profit.

Olivér Varga: thank you for clarification!
Olivér Varga
Vidas: To be fair it would be extra useful and super if this would be like an inbuilt overview for the project itself (row or task) and not have to go check a separate report page for this. :)
Vidas
Olivér Varga: makes absolute sense. We do have formula field in our plans. Will take this among formula use cases and see whether we can put it among first versions.
